Young Professionals Group Application (PDF)

Volunteers are a vital and essential element of the Columbus Cancer Clinic. Their immeasurable dedication and hard work allow the Clinic to continually expand its areas of service and increase public awareness. Volunteers help the Clinic meet community needs, and the Clinic offers volunteers the opportunity to gain many personal benefits, including training opportunities, skill development, interaction with healthcare professionals and annual recognition.

Volunteers take part in all of the Clinic’s programs. Community education volunteers Volunteer Food Pantryrepresent the Clinic at area health fairs, where they set up displays and share general information about cancer and the Clinic’s various services. Volunteers that lend their time in home care support help by washing, styling and maintaining wigs as well as washing prostheses. In screening services, volunteers aid the mammography mobile and screening clinic by collecting, reviewing, and maintaining client registration materials, assisting technologists with equipment and setting up educational video.

The Clinic also utilizes volunteers for an array of administrative activities. They assist with making thank you phone calls to donors, arranging client appointments, assisting in the food pantry, organizing the cancer resource library and preparing materials for bulk mailing.

VolunteersCollege students interested in nonprofit healthcare also have opportunities for shadowing and internships. Clinic staff members have mentored students in several fields, including nursing and public relations.

In addition, the first Rays of the Columbus Cancer Clinic were established in 1946. Today, the primary goal of these volunteers is to provide a ray of hope for cancer patients by raising funds.

In March 2003, the Clinic created a Young Professionals Group (YPG). Professionals YPG Arts Festbetween the ages of 25 and 40 may join the group of volunteers representing area businesses. The group’s objectives are: to encourage young professionals within Columbus to get involved in their community through volunteerism; to provide an opportunity to network with other area professionals; and to increase awareness and financial support for the programs and services provided by the Clinic through fund-raising and special events.

Recruitment for YPG occurs all year round. If you would like to receive more information on the group, please download an application or click here for a list of current YPG members.
